Emporium of MirthRob Rouse
Pah, these comedians, spome of them are far too busy to come and have a chat with us. Luckily for us the tri- socked Mr. Rob Rouse decided he wanted to answer our questions all the way from Melbourne where he's just finished a triumphant run at the Comfest, here's what he said...
How are you finding the Melbourne festival?
It's wonderful. The people are lovely, The food is amazing and the weather is great. Sort yourself out London! Just try smiling for once. I miss your big grumpy, dirty streets.
Do you have any plans for Edinburgh this year?
I might have something rather exciting to work on which might rule me out of going up this year, but that's all i can say at the moment.
Is there anything planned for Big and Daft?
We haven't done anything together since the radio show on BBC London, so that was ages ago. I'm concentrating on my stand up, So's Ian and Jon's had a baby, which has taken a lot of his time because he had to be turned into a woman first.
Were you gutted about not reprising your role in the TV version of 15 Storeys high? I slept with Sean in order to get the radio job, but then my friends said, "Rob, you've got to respect yourself sister, don't be doing that." So I forsook the Telly role. Seriously though, I was very lucky to be in the radio series in the first place so I felt I didn't loose out at all when it transferred to TV! I got to be in the series anyway, playing a smack addict.
What do the next 12 months have in store for you?
Shed Loads of gigs, lots of writing and maybe some secrets!
At the moment you appear to be spanning all the genres, what's your ideal medium?
I think the more you can do and the more experiences you have, the better everything gets as a result. The great thing about stand up though is that you've always got a job you can go out and do, If you have an idea you can try it out that night.
What is your favorite venue to play?
Kings head on a Saturday night. Thursdays at the back yard in Bethnal green have been really good fun as it's quite a new night and the audience is a genuine cross section of all the different people that live in London. The Comedy cafe is great fun and the bouncers are great people!
Who would you Recommend Emporium of Mirth Readers should get out and see?
Everyone.
Who do you think they should avoid?
No one.
What's the best/Worst heckle you've ever experienced?
"I hope that's water!"
Did you get to keep "Cooking in a bedsitter" after Black Books finished?
I had to take it out on my library card like evryone else, that reminds me it's overdue now, Those boys don't muck about, theuy just beat the crap out of you, but in a really amusing and slightly whimsical way!
