Emporium of MirthIf we get excited about a bit of comedy news, it'll appear here within minutes... well, hours.
Emporium of Mirth: LIVE! Posted at 17:51 - 09 Apr 2006
Thanks to all that came to the inaugural Emporium of Mirth Live on Monday 3rd April.
The introductory meeting of mirth saw much fun being had by all, with episodes of classic sitcoms being recreated 21st Century styleeee, tales of cut arses, time travel and walruses, so that by the end of the night, we wondered why there was ever any doubt that we’d do it again.
By the day of the event, we were being recommended by such luminaries as the BBC, Chortle and generally anyone that had heard about it, and as such, we had a really friendly crowd that made all the acts feel happy and loved. Aaaw.
So, when will there be more? I hear you cry. And the answer is… stay tuned! We’ll do at least three more this year, one in the summer (hopefully), autumn and winter, and some of them will have twists….ooooh!
For now, we’ll just tease you with photos of the first one, cause we’re cruel like that, and anyway, it’s your own fault for not being there!!!
Unfortunately, as we were so busy flapping and trying to figure out the sound desk at the beginning, we don’t appear to have any photos of our delightful opener Lisa Egan, or in fact, of dirty stripper Danielle Ward with her baps of glory ;)
Master of Ceremonies Tom Meeten waxes lyrical about walruses. Honest.
Robin Ince loses his centre of gravity while getting angry about something.
The Trap are free.
Time traveller Tony Law torments our great great great great great great grandchildren.
Radio Trapped Posted at 15:10 - 23 Jun 2005
Dedicated Tri-Dem riders and general hilarious boys the Trap are coming to a radio near you!
Jeremy Limb, Dan Mersh and Paul Litchfield are embarking on teir first audio ride this summer, with recordings beginning during Radio 4's visit to the Fringe this year.
So, to say that august is going to be a busy time for those boys would be an understatement, with their Trap show, Bad Play and the radio recordings, they couldn't possibly fit telly in as well... could they?
Comedy Lab Returns Triumphant! Posted at 18:14 - 11 May 2005
Channel Four's longstanding breeder of mirth is back again this summer with another set of Next-Big-Things in waiting.
The series starts off with "Modern Toss" a show about an innapporpriate Sign Writer which has been produced by Adam and Joe's Joe Cornish.
Other installments that promise to be highlights are "Whatever" the story of what would happen if we let the youth of today run telly, Blackout, in which Katherine Jakeaways turns into Lucienne Porter, played by Reginald D Hunter and Skin Deep, in which the fantabulous Oram and Meeten play bickering Ink Artists.
We can't wait... can you??
Mark Watson is at it again Posted at 18:03 - 05 Apr 2005
Over-ambitious welshman Mark Watson is set to Hit Edinburgh in his tried and tested only by him manner this year by only doing one performance. For 2005 Minutes.
Inspired by Rohan Acharya's brainchildren 60 Acts in 60 Minutes and the recent TV adaptation 28 acts in 28 minutes, of whih Mark was a star, Mark is going to attempt to cover world history from the birth of Christ to the present day in 2005 acts in 2005 minutes, clocking up over 33 hours of stage time all in one go, breaking last year's record 24 hour gig by over 11 hours.
Obviously a glutton for punishment, Mark last year chose the final moments of his mammouth 24 hour stage stint to propose to his girlfriend, Emily. Thankfully, she said yes so expect to see her a little on edge during the performance, wondering what's in store for her this time...
Funny Women Stand Up Posted at 13:39 - 06 Feb 2005
On Tuesday 8th February, many of the country's funniest women take to the stage at the Cafe de Paris to raise awareness of violence against women. Jo Caulfield, Lucy Porter and Sarah Kendall, among others, perform a stand-up show with the proceeds going straight to the charity V-Day: Until the Violence Stops, aiming to protect women from domestic violence. Tickets are £16.50, and it's for a good cause. So, if you've got a free night, why not go along, have a laugh and support women nationwide?
Nathan Barley News Posted at 17:15 - 21 Jan 2005 Details are finally starting to come in regarding the until recently very cloak and dagger project from Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker.
Originally known as Box of Slice, the show is now named Nathan Barley.
The eponymous Barley is a character which originated on Brooker's site TV go home and it a pretentious wannabe media mogul.
Trailers have recently started on Chanel four, ready for it's broadcast in February and stars, alongside some new faces, Emporium favorites Kevin Eldon, Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt. Julian's Character Dan, according to Noel is "a bit mental... actually, all the characters have some sort of screw loose"
Fielding plays a DJ who is enjoying inexplicable succes despite being completely off his tree. In fact, he's so obsessed with the art of spinning discs that he even takes his turntables to the bus stop with him.
Channel Four have this to say about the lead character, Barley "He's a complete fucking Tool"
Stay tuned for more info and reviews as we get our mitts on it

Emporium Of Mirthday Posted at 14:22 - 17 Dec 2004
*****************************************
Dear reader,
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to Emporium Of Mirthday, the celebration of an entire year of Emporium of Mirth.co.uk's comedy niceness.
The event will take place on April 1st 2005 at a venue yet to be disclosed.
The evening will include entertainments from some of the turns favoured by the Laydeez of the Emporium.
Dress will be at the discression of the atendee.
******************************************
Yes, we know it's early, but we've been planning an event to blow your socks of on the anniversary of our official inception (don't forget folks, the Emporium didn't start on its own address with its own special design and 'ting there was much tedious testing going on for months before we became the well-oiled (yeah right) machine we are now!).
Closer to the time we'll announce the acts, venue and time (though so say it's going to be a blinder would be putting it mildly) but in the meantime, we need your help.
The event is going to double up as the first annual "Emporium of Mirth Awards" and, though we toyed with the idea of just giving the awards to people we wanted to give awards to, we thought we'd give you a say.
We've only decided a few of the categories so far, so, to make it even more inter-active, we're going to leave it open for the time being.
So, until January 15th, voting is an open playing field. Just e-mail us at votevotevote@emporiumofmirth.co.uk with who you think we should give an award to and why, and the nominations and categories will be announced on January 15th!
Happy voting!
Nebulous Posted at 12:57 - 03 Dec 2004
The League of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss takes his obsession with science labs to worrying heights in the new radio sitcom "Nebulous". Professor Nebulous is an environmental campaigner with science on his side... money, however, is distinctly not on his side, so work in a laundrette is probably closer to Nebulous' real life.
Gatiss teams up with, among others, Dr Terrible's House of Horrible writer Graham Duff, Dr Who writer and mad fan Nick Briggs, and all-round star Paul Putner to bring this new series to your ears. It starts on 6th January, 11pm, Radio 4.

Mitch Benn and the Distractions - Too Late to Cancel Posted at 21:31 - 04 Nov 2004
Mitch Benn and his cohorts the distractions (Kirsty Newton on bass and keyboards and the very sassy Tash Bayliss on drums) have just released their first album together.
Hot on the heels of Mitch's previous outings, Too Late to Cancel sees the band rocking out, doing show-stopping theatre tunes, all served with a healthy dose of piss-taking.
It went on sale on Monday and word has it that it's going like warm cakes. Which is nice.
Oh, and look at the liner notes.... ;)
Ross Noble: Unrealtime Posted at 13:12 - 27 Oct 2004 In case you didn't know already, Ross Noble's most recent tour, Unrealtime, is available on DVD and video now.
Always a master of value, the DVD is actually a double disk set with two seperate shows, filmed at each end of his 2003 tour. There is also a really rather amusing Trivia track which pops up at regular intervals to 'clarify' some of Ross' many points... Value AND education... that's Noble for you.
Check out the monkey on the promotional pictures, it's almost as if he were one of Ross' many minions.
