Emporium of MirthSimon Clayton
It’s not often that I use the phrase “cringeworthy” to describe a compere- it seems a little unfair. But, in this case...
He introduces himself by saying, “my name’s Simon, not, as you might think, Howard from the Halifax adverts.” The reference to his likeness to said ad character is not really a joke, more of an observation. The rest of his routine seems to consist of flirting rudely with male audience members, which is not the best thing to do if you want them on your side (particularly in Basildon!). At one point he makes an infuriatingly snide and patronising comment that blames the audience for not laughing at one of his particularly unfunny gags; it’s you versus about 50 of us, Simon. Ever thought about improving your act?
