Mick Ferry

Anybody who thinks the Student Union of the University of Central Lancashire is posh *must* be from Oldham. Indeed, this is something Mick Ferry refers to in his opener to the audience: “I’m from Oldham, so I’m as thick as shit. And if anyone asks me if I was in Auf Wiedersehen Pet I’ll deck them.” His resemblance to Timothy Spall is uncanny. As far as compares go, Mick is average, making sure he isn’t funnier than the acts but at the same time exuding a warm, friendly aura that immediately gets you on his side. He gently ribs a guy in the front row because he is wearing a Boddingtons t-shirt, and labels him “whacky”, which is one of the best uses of irony I have ever come across. Mick efficiently moves the audience on to anticipation of the next acts with gentle, predictable but amusing humour, and fulfils his job description perfectly.
