Kitty Flanagan

It’s often been observed that Australians have the closest sense of comedy to the Brits; whether that’s true or not, Kitty is an Ozzy treat, opening her act by claiming that Geordie is a romantic accent, while South African is evil and slightly retarded (imagine that last part spoken in a South African accent, and you’ll see what she means). Observational comedy is so often frowned upon, but Kitty does it very well, interspersing her routine with self-deprecating comments about such things as not being able to mime sex (“I dunno what this is, it looks like I’m driving a bus up a tree!”), and living in a house full of students (“that’s exactly where I want to be at 35. No other aspirations at all.”). Her heckle comebacks are supreme, telling a loud man in the front row, “you’re balding, Sir, you really should be more polite.” While her comedy is nothing groundbreaking, Kitty makes a pretty good go of everything. Strong observation, quips and one-liners, anecdotes and flights of fancy, with a little bit of physical comedy thrown in for good measure. See her if you can.
