Paul Foot

Paul Foot frankly baffles me.

I don’t care if I sound unprofessional because I think it’s time for me to come clean… I’m completely at a loss for an opinion on this critically acclaimed and lauded comedian. Some would say the awards would point to his greatness but me… I’m confused.

When Paul stumbles onto the stage he immediately breaks the ice with “sorry, I’m a bit camp” before launching into a ramble about the state of the weather (“ooh, it’s a bit grotty”) which he is still in mid flow of 10 minutes later. At first I assumed this was his warm up before the real material started but no, Paul can keep this up for an entire set… Maybe this is his art?

The main problem I have reviewing Paul, is figuring out WHY he’s funny. Yes, I laughed, heartily… but why is he funny!? Reducing audiences to tears seems effortless for him, his rambles never seeming to end while also never seeming to grow tired… maybe this is his art?

In short, if anybody can tell me why the hell I was laughing my socks off, please send your answers on a postcard…
