Emporium of MirthMilton Jones
Milton Jones is a relative veteran on the comedy circuit and when he ambles onto the stage in his hideously bright jumpers, people expect a certain something, a magic that a newcomer wouldn’t be able to pull off.
However, his constantly bewildered look and formulaic gags wear thin a few minutes in and it becomes obvious that his whole routine seems to rely too heavily on his ‘Freaky’ persona. That’s not to say he isn’t funny, for there are a few prize gems hidden in between his puns and surreal observations.
I would like to assume that on 90% of occasions, Milton would lead to a crescendo, making the last laugh the loudest in the style of a true professional. Unfortunately, on this occasion, his professionalism wavered due to a very drunk heckler. He immediately dealt with the heckler very well, resulting in the biggest laugh of the night, but he made the mistake of allowing the heckler to continue his banter, and thus completely lost control of the situation. Until this point his act, though not to everyone’s taste, had been well thought out and excellently knitted together and I can’t help wondering if the audience had been cheated of something truly great by one rogue member.
