Emporium of MirthLee Mack
It’s hard to follow Johnson and Johnson without taking the piss… so naturally, Lee Mack can’t resist, immediately winning the crowd over with the claim “I used to have an identical twin… but we had an act like that so I shot him”.
Lee is a very accomplished performer, after immediately getting the audience on his side, he works hard to keep them there including them in his act (“any questions?”), often at the expense of his train of thought. He storms though his set at a lightening pace, running off at tangents here and there but almost always coming back to tie off the ends of his well knitted chunks of random.
Lee is brimming with confidence and as such leaps from character to character bringing simple anecdotes to life, making his observations delightfully odd (“I saw a girl on the way here and I couldn’t tell if she was wearing a bindi or if she was Sky Interactive”), and filling the stage merely with his presence. Granted, some of his routines have absolutely no point or conclusion but this adds to his magic sometimes random tangents should be just that, random!
I beg you, don’t be like me and judge him on the fact he was in The Sketch Show, I very nearly let that get in the way of seeing an act I can now see is one of the best comedians on the circuit.
