Emporium of MirthPaul Zerdin
When Paul Zerdin took to the stage my immediate reaction was “god, I hate ventriloquists” and Paul Zerdin’s act did nothing to quell this. What it did do was show me what happens when someone neglects aspects of their talents that should be developed.
The sections of his act where all the puppets where safely in the bag were extremely enjoyable, Paul is a talented comedian and although he did use a little ventriloquism in these sections, it was used expertly and did not seem out of place. However, as soon as the puppets and props appeared I had to get out my stereotyping questionnaire. As usual, he was using the puppet to make jokes about the audience he wouldn’t dare to say himself.
All in all, I think if Paul lost the puppetry, I would think he was fantastic, as it stands the puppet is getting in the way of something that could be truly great. Still, the Queen seems to like him.
