Emporium of MirthFrankie Boyle
Now, Frankie confused us at first, for he looks and sounds like one of our housemates… but don’t let that put you off, our housemate is f**king funny!
Although Frankie did cross off a few of the tick-boxes on my soon to be infamous (hopefully) “Stereotype Criteria Fulfilment Form” Frankie had the charm and energy to pull it off. Yes, he’s Scottish, yes, some of his act relied on cultural differences but when it did, it was delivered with a great sense of timing, audience awareness and more importantly, a fondness that a lesser comedian may have cast aside to gain a bigger laugh.
What stood out about Frankie is that, though he is conscious of the audience, he shows no signs of self-consciousness, and would often slip into accidentally becoming inappropriate as a result. Whether this was an effort to see how far he could push the audience I could not say, but if it was, it certainly worked. Frankie is a relative newcomer to the circuit and I would definitely put him down as one to watch.
