Emporium of MirthJoin Me by Danny Wallace
In 2001, only a few people knew of Danny Wallace, and most of these people knew him from playing second fiddle to his ex-flatmate Dave, given that the pair had just taken to writing a book entirely about Dave Gorman… all 55 of him.
It’s 2004 now and not much has changed, you mention the name Danny Wallace and people will look at you blankly…. Then how on earth did he get over 1000 people to join his cul – sorry, collective?
The answer is simple. Natural human curiosity. It’s a simple premise but Danny knows people and simply by arousing peoples curiosity, Danny sowed the seeds of a collective while the most curious of all people was actually himself. Using a little mystery, luck and a hell of a lot of good deeds, Danny now has over 1000 people at his beck and call, and it wasn’t until halfway through, he actually knew what to do with them.
Join me is the story of how the death of a distant (were talking Switzerland) uncle lead to people doing good deeds in droves all in the name of ‘Join Me’
Although a lot of creative licence has been used (though only early joinees will notice), Join Me still manages to be a heart-warming story with a brilliantly bittersweet ending.
