Emporium of MirthComedy A Jo Jo
The first thing I equate with Comedy A Jo Jo, is that it feels very exclusive and a bit special. This is clearly no accident, running in seasons, Comedy A Jo Jo attracts some of the biggest names on the circuit to one of the seediest clubs in Soho. With its pole still in place, Madame Jo Jo’s seems like an odd location for a comedy gig, but itsplush décor seems to add an extra sparkle to the Comedy a Jo Jo magic.
The seasonal element for Comedy a Jo Jo, coupled with its tendency to pull off seemingly impossible experiments (the opening night of this season boasted 60 acts in 60 minutes) is almost certainly the main contributing factor to this feeling of exclusivity. You know it’s going to be a spectacle, and as it’s not around forever you feel compelled to get your booty as near as possible to the ever present dancing pole. This is almost certainly why they can attract acts such as the fabulous Mr Sean Lock out of the stand-up wilderness after time away from the circuit building a TV empire.
This is also one of the few clubs where even the interval is entertaining, whether it be Johnny Berliner and his acoustic japery or a load of dancing girls, not a minute goes by without something to entertain you.
Even so, the crowd sometimes lets the club down but whether there are 20 people or 200 you can be sure you’ll have a fantastic evening.
