This spring, BBC7 brings Dave Gorman's Bestseller “Googlewhack Adventure” to radio. Read by the man himself, these instalments will take you into the mind of a 31-year-old comedian who is suddenly gripped by the desire to be taken seriously. Of course, the most obvious thing to do is to write a novel- instant overnight integrity. But, despite the compulsory growth of facial hair, procrastination turns out to be Dave's speciality, and “Googlewhack Adventure” is the story of the novel that never was.
Whether you're a geek who spends far too much time on the Internet, or you simply enjoy well-written and humorous accounts of what are essentially mundane, everyday activities, Googlewhack Adventure will have something that strikes a chord with everyone. While it's no masterpiece, it's certainly enjoyable teatime listening, and guaranteed to raise a smile and more, with accounts of emails from Australian strangers, and a recap of the rules of Googlewhacking for any beginners who may be listening.
If you're going to broadscast a book, the obvious person to read it is the writer. Dave is no exception, knowing the intent behind even the simplest phrases and delivering them beautifully in a deadpan, Tony Hawkes style.
While it's not going to change your life, I'd nonetheless recommend listening; you never know, you might even learn something. Oh, and he gives out some addresses of dirty porn sites too. There you go, that got your attention, didn't it?
