Emporium of MirthI'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue
What do you get if you cross four comedians, an ageing trumpet player, a luscious (yet strangely silent) scorer, an ill-treated pianist, a correspondent from North Wales and whole bunch of silly things to do? The antidote to panel games, of course!
The logical next step from the scripted “I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again”, Clue has been going for more than 30 years, and it still hasn’t lost its touch. Humphrey Lyttleton reigns- albeit rather resignedly- over regulars Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Barry Cryer along with other guests (including Sandi Toksvig, Stephen Fry and Tony Hawkes). It’s silly yet sharp, with regular games like Cheddar Gorge (in which the panellists must attempt not to finish a sentence) and Mornington Crescent (which you’d be stupid not to know the rules of) providing the opportunity for witty one-liners and entertaining banter from the teams.
The loyalty of the fans of this show is phenomenal, and has no doubt contributed to its well-deserved longevity. It constantly attracts new listeners too, and it still produces comedy of a standard high enough to win it the Gold Sony Award for a comedy show in 2004. As if there was any doubt it would lose.
It’s silly, it’s funny, and it’s often been described as the best show on radio. Decide for yourselves if you haven’t already.
