Green Wing

Now, let me not mince my words... Green Wing is fucking AWFUL! I wouldn't usually express my hatred of something somebody has slaved over for months to create so strongly but in this case, it really feels like no effort has gone into it at all, so I feel my vitriol is somewhat justified.

The writing team seems to be never ending on this show, which makes you wonder just what they were doing for all that time, as every scene seems to follow the same formula (something silly, some lines that are almost funny leading to - just as the line was about to become funny - something else utterly ridiculous) and in increasingly mind-numbingly obvious ways.

It also feels far too... male. They have what should be a fantastic cast of girlies (Tamsin Grieg in particular) but they are using them all wrong, breaking up jobbies in the bathrom and weighing their breasts for no apparent reason than the writers thought it would be funny if there were some breasts lying around it seems.

Then there's the plot. Erm... what was it again? There seemed to be tiny, microscopic plot points thrown in seemingly randomly but there weren't nearly enough to make a whole one.

The camera work illustrated it's fast moving for slow minds ethos by constantly (annoyingly) slowing down and speeding up in the joining up of the scenes but what it actually illustrated was that these sketches are hardly related, and though it tries half-heartedly to link them together they just seem to be a jumble of tedious sketches.

All this means that, though the show lasts an hour, you never once relate to any of the characters enough to want to keep watching. There are no plots to follow (unless you count the hospital-set tv show staple of having a new person on the job, but again, not enough of a plot to keep anyone interested)that are going to warrant tuning in to subsequent episodes. In fact, the only reason I managed to stick with it for the whole hour was because i was waiting to see if it got good to make sure i wasn't jumping the gun.

Even TLC was better than this.
